Lurking Glass Update

Lurking Glass

Lurking Glass Community/Forum (lurkingglass.com) is getting a major update.

The new forums are launched, it has new photo albums, a nice media sharing area, and IRC chat. More new features are coming as well.

We relaunched using XenForo forum software, after considering several software packages, including vBulletin 4. But upon review XenForo seemed like the best solution. vBulletin has also been bought out by Internet Brands, and I’m not a fan of their business practices or ethics.

We’re in the middle of the switch now. We’re leaving the old vBulletin site online during the switch to make it easy for users to make backups of any content that won’t be transferred.

My Views On Some Things

Some of my views may be offensive or impractical. Just sayin’, fair warning and all.

————————————————–

On World Population

There are too many people on Earth. Especially in places that seem to lack the capability to feed and care for their amount of people. Even if we don’t actively cull the population, procreation should be restricted to replacement levels.

On The Justice System

There should be no incentive for prosecutors to prosecute. Prosecutors should not be able to gain notoriety based on the number of people they put away. Restrictive term limits would help, but ideally after serving as a prosecutor an attorney should be barred from serving in any other elected office.

Obscenity laws, and any others that are based on the subjective principle of contemporary community standards (like the Miller test) should be abolished. They are an affront to freedom of speech and freedom of expression.

On Politics

The right to vote should be contingent on exceeding an intelligence threshold. You should also have to pass a test showing a high knowledge of current events. Same goes for those running for elected office.

It should be required that laws relating to technology must be authored by someone with a firm grasp on and extensive knowledge of the technology in question. Same goes for patent office employees.

No act of congress or law should exceed ten pages of single-spaced text. If you can’t fit the idea into that space it is probably too convoluted to be practical or has content unrelated to the primary stated purpose of the act or law.

On Law Enforcement

Police officers should have all of their interactions with the public recorded on video. These recordings should be public record, and the police should have no way to alter the original source video files.

The police should not be allowed to lie to suspects to elicit a confession.

On Advertising

Automakers should stop saying that their vehicles are “best in its class” without also stating what other vehicles are in that class. When you get specific enough, every vehicle could be in its own class.

On Foreign Aid

Any aid should dispensed through a U.S. representative in the foreign country. It should not be controlled by those in power in the recipient country, if they knew what they were doing they wouldn’t need the help (this excludes natural disaster aid, of course).

Aid should not be given to unsustainable societies. Certain areas of the Earth aren’t good places for humans to live. Such societies should be allowed to die out rather than be artificially sustained with assistance.

On Euthanasia

A human should be allowed to decide whether or not they continue living. It is cruel to force or even ask someone to live if their quality of life is diminished due to pain, physical disability, or mental deterioration. No stigma or guilt should be placed on someone choosing death over a diminished life.

On Bloodsport

Prisoners serving life sentences and those condemned to death should have the option to participate in gladiatorial combat in a public arena. A condition of participation would be becoming an organ donor. This would have the benefits of reducing prison populations, income from ticket sales (which could reduce taxes, deficit, or go to victim’s families), and healthy organs available for harvest after a fight.

Hollywood Undead Unmasked

Went to see Hollywood Undead last Saturday. Was a great show, but it was hot as hell. The Undead stripped off their sweatshirts and masks after the first song. I think they unmask at most shows, but that’s usually just to show the chicks their pretty faces. Charlie actually complained about the heat a few times during the show. Surely they could’ve provided some A/C, or at least a fan?

In any case, it was pretty sweet. I got a few shitty cellphone pics…

So, there’s this chick in the video above dancing to some chalga (kyuchek in Bulgarian) song. I’m not really a fan of the tune, but I’ve heard worse. The dancer is doing it well, I’m assuming, based on reaction of the crowd. However, due to the high tempo it’s a little hard to tell if she’s on the beat. Overall, it’s pretty average and not something I’d watch again.

But, then I saw that someone had remixed the video with the dubstep tune “Southpaw” by Datsik. Holy shit! It’s insane how perfectly the song fits the dance. It’s as if she’d been dancing to it the whole time; like she knew some guy was gonna come along someday and find a song with enough wobble to fit her moves.

Behold…

Is there anything dubstep can’t improve?
